The mission of Raising Micah is to excite, equip, and empower families, churches, and communities to raise children who will do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God. The hope is to remake our world.
Raising Micah began with a deep restlessness that whispered, “Something is not right.” The little voice in us seemed to ask many questions, “Why do youth and adults do mission trips, but not FAMILIES?”, “Why do children collect pennies, but all too often not go further in serving those around them?”, “Why do we spend so much time driving to school and practices and activities, but spend so little time looking at the big picture?”, “How do you weave faith and God into EVERYTHING, instead of just a Sunday-thing?”, “If the children are ‘our future,’ are we raising them in such a way to reshape the world?”.
The Old Testament prophet, Micah, looked at the world around him and knew that something must change. What might God want? Micah said the answer was “to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God.”
What might happen if we all worked together to “raise a Micah...” to raise children who might very well bring about God’s justice and kindness and humbleness?
Raising Micah isn’t so much a “program” as it is a movement to live as families in a more intentional, missional, beautiful way. We believe that average, everyday families can cause a revolution.
Micah voiced a way. Jesus showed the way. May we be a part of that way. You are invited to bring along your family, in whatever shape or form your family might take, bring your children from age 0 to 18, and be a part of “Raising Micah.”
How exactly might you be a part of Raising Micah?
- You can read the monthly essays or seasonal essays within your own family and practice living within those rhythms in your home.
- You can gather with an established Raising Micah family group – or start one of your own – that meets once a month to talk about the monthly essay and then once a month to do a service or learning project together as families... to be journeying with one another to live deep and wide.
- You can explore living more connected to other families through family monasticism... gathering more than once a month and living in ancient rhythms of prayer and practice...
- You can attend once of the Raising Micah retreats, trips, or experiences.
- You can contact us about other ways we can be in ministry together.
Blessings to you and your family!
